Masks
Bill's Junk, 1125 E 11th St, Houston, TX 77009
January 26- February 11, 2018
Opening Reception January 26th, 6 - 9pm
Including work by Dan Boehl, Sara Cress, Cinthia Gomez, J.D. Ho, Lindsay Kayser, Emily Link, Gene Morgan, Angel Oloshove, Timothy Willis Sanders, and Julai Whipple
Masks is a continuing series of works started in 2015 when Bradford created 55 crocheted headpieces for the Fresh Arts Community Supported Art program. Collectors who bought the pieces were asked to allow Bradford to photograph them wearing the mask they chose, thereby becoming part of the artwork. For these seven subjects, Bradford has now asked seven writers to respond to the images in any way they choose.
Continuing the project in 2016 with the headpieces that did not sell, Bradford photographed close friends in the New Mexico landscape wearing masks of their choosing. Three of these photos, along with the masks represented, were shared with Houston artists Cinthia Gomez, Emily Link, and Angel Oloshove, who were asked to make an artwork in response. The pieces they create will be displayed alongside the masks and photos.
Finally, the remaining eleven masks from the project will be displayed at Bill’s Junk. Viewers will be encouraged to try them on, and allow Bradford to take a mini polaroid to tack on the wall next to the pieces, letting everyone become a part of the show.
